PRE-COLLEGE YEARS: Vanessa first discovered her interest in personal training during her years at Champlin Park High School (2001-2005). During this time she represented her school on the Soccer team, Track and Field team, Marching Band, Pep Band, and the Cross Country Running team. When she was not competing or studying she was in the weight room learning about personal training from her physical education teacher who was a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. In 2004 she took second place in a regional high school strength and conditioning competition for Champin Park High School. Although she was not officially a personal trainer at this stage, she loved helping her schoolmates understand the art of proper and safe form, and conducting demonstrations on how to use each piece of equipment.
COLLEGE YEARS: Vanessa was certified through AFAA in 2007. Shortly after, she took on her first official role working as a Personal Trainer at Minnesota State University, Mankato (MSU). She trained clients one-on-one, and instructed several 10 week Boot Camp programs. For the year of 2008, Vanessa moved to Hawaii where she studied at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. During her stay in Hawaii she was hired to personal train Army, Navy, Air force, and Marine service members stationed at or near Schofield Barracks, HI. She also worked with upper level army leadership and military spouses. Her professional advice and contributions spread from her clients on to their soldiers, which greatly increased the readiness of American service members preparing for their deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Also during this time period she married her high school sweet heart, Sergeant Pipho, Nicholas C., an Intelligence Analyst and Fire Support Specialist with the armies 4th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks. Before permanently returning to Minnesota, Vanessa completed an internship in the summer of 2009 at the NASA Kennedy Space Center in Florida personal training NASA employees. Earning a security clearance, she was honored to personal train the NASA Space Shuttles’ Fire Rescue team. Vanessa graduated from Minnesota State University, Mankato in May of 2010 with an Exercise Science degree, and a minor in Food and Nutrition.
